MEDIA LEVEL 2 GROUP FILM PROJECT - IDEA PITCH

My film. 
Blind Faith

•We follow a crooked cop who is a very menacing in his ways as he lets things off the hook like drugs and the abuse he puts on people. He is after the leader of the gang responsible for the crime in the beginning of the movie. It all becomes more complicated for him when he finds out that his younger brother is working the gangs legal department this makes up for interesting themes like family and loyalty. Thisis set in New York during the early 90s. 

•I came up with this idea by watching crime movies such as Fargo, Taken and Itchi the killer. These movies differ completely but two of them have dark comedic elements to them. So my idea is all by me but I defiantly took inspiration from other pieces of cinema and media. 

•My film takes the crime genre and adds some dark humor and violence to kind of show how the grittiness of movies by directors such as David Fincher can have some elements that are darkly comical.  

Audience Profiling:

•I am making this film for fans of such films as Chinatown, Se7en and Fargo. This gives me an opportunity to pay homage to such masterpieces and have something the audience feels familiar with yet is open to its raw and darkly funny scenes. 

•My target audience will be aged around 20 – 40 and be fans of cinema and have dark senses of humor as this may be pivotal to the viewer to enjoy the film presented to them. 

The rest of the market: 

•The market I would go for is independent companies like A24 as they are well known for having independent films of any genre without setting up a franchise. The company is well known for selling critically acclaimed films such as It comes at night, Moonlight, Ex Machina and Hereditary. Some of which have won Oscars and been nominated. 

•The company have such a great record for having tremendous amounts of acclaimed movies but are not as billion dollar grossers such as Universal, paramount or Lionsgate. 

•This would give me a chance to be explorative with my filmmaking and not feel pressured by a studio to do a Hollywood back to basics crime film such as Taken 2 or The expendables.

Expectations: 

•The type of movie I want to make is a darkly humorous violent crime movie in the vain of American Psycho and Taken. 

•Within this Genre the elements are the characters are usually very foolish within the storyline or events take place that are cruel but are sprinkled with comedy and chuckle worthy quotes. 

•Movies such as American psycho have scenes where the main character Patrick Bateman who is also the antagonist of the film is talking about Whitney Huston and Genesis LPs before slaughtering people giving a funny yet grim portrayals of a sick psychopath. 

Script: 

This is a draft for the script I might make changes to this as a I please. 

The scenes are set in streets and another will be set in the room with the green screen as it will make for a good interrogation room with the wall of glass being good for shots from the outside. 

Production: 

•For this I will be getting some of the drama students to be in my film. Some of them have the right material to be fit for these roles. 

•I will have an on set script almost at all times and have some for the cast. 

•Shooting locations will be outside in streets or areas that fit the dark areas in the film. Scenes will be filmed in the college also as there can be scenes within the police station and this will give a realistic vibe to some of the scenes as I can ask staff to be backgrounds extras. 

•I already have good ideas for implications within opening scenes. – For example I can have one of the female drama students wear a plaster on her nose and have make under one of her eyes to make the character seem dark, funny and unsympathetic for her behavior. 

•Main Character will be Brad Dowell and The secondary character will be the younger brother played by someone else. 

Character Breakdown:

•Mark Dowell (Play by Brad Dowell) – Crooked cop, he is violent and unsympathetic but cares for his younger brother who has gotten him off the hook many times and is a great lawyer. He is not very charismatic or charming just cynical and trying to do his best by his brother but breaks the law and is even an abusive drug addict. 

•Lewis Dowell – A small layer the brother of mark who is respectful yet fearful for his safety due to the gang he works with as he is in deep with protecting them against the FBI and police force for the human trafficking and murders they have committed. He is young and isn't a fighter yet is smart enough to know how to get himself out of situations. He is fearful for his brother and of him as his brother could arrest him or psychically hurt him due to other things he has done before.  

•Lucy Gilbert  (Elise) -  Prostitute who is being persuaded by the police to give up her lover who is the boss of the crime organization. She is hurt and not fit to fight back against this so she is on both ends of the scale by wanting to protect the person who she loves and hurts her and against mark who also threatens to hurt her if she doesn't comply.

•Gordon Hugh's  -   He is the boss of the gang and is heavily feared, he is hyper violent and a major abusive drug addict kind of a worse version of Mark.

•Extras (Unknown) – Police officers, gang members, news reporters and interrogated girl from beginning of draft.
